Over 600 People Arrested in Balkh Province Over Past Year, Authorities Say

The Balkh Provincial Police Command has announced that more than 500 criminal cases have been investigated and handled in the province over the past year, resulting in the arrest of over 600 individuals accused of involvement in various crimes.
A spokesperson for the command stated that these figures are the outcome of security operations conducted in Mazar-i-Sharif city and other areas of Balkh. According to the spokesperson, police forces across different sectors have been continuously pursuing such cases.
The official also announced the launch of a “serious” campaign against the cultivation, purchase, and sale of narcotics, adding that within this program, treatment has been provided for more than 3,400 drug addicts.
Despite the release of these statistics by the Taliban administration officials in Balkh, no further details have been provided regarding the types of crimes, the way the cases have been processed, or the fate of those detained. This lack of information calls for greater transparency to assure citizens of the delivery of justice and the protection of the rights of detained individuals.
