Israeli Military Destroys Christian Monastery in Southern Lebanon, Sparking Outcry
Lebanese media have reported that Israeli soldiers demolished a Christian monastery in the border village of Yaroun in southern Lebanon using bulldozers, an incident that has drawn reactions from religious and charitable organizations.
According to these reports, the monastery was located in one of the border areas of southern Lebanon, a region that has witnessed repeated tensions and military operations in recent months. The destruction of this place of worship occurred shortly after reports surfaced about an Israeli soldier disrespecting an image of Christ.
In response, the Israeli army claimed that its forces damaged only a house in the area and that the building showed no signs of being a religious site. However, a Catholic charity organization in Lebanon emphasized that the demolished structure was an active Christian monastery.
A statement issued by the organization strongly condemned the deliberate destruction of a place of worship as well as the systematic demolition of homes in southern Lebanon. The organization added that such actions could prevent the return of civilian residents to their areas.
Southern Lebanon has been a sensitive conflict zone between Israel and Lebanese groups for many years, and any damage to religious sites in this region has sparked widespread concern among religious communities.
