Pakistani Opposition Leader Warns of Imminent Civil War Amid Government Crackdown

Mahmood Khan Achakzai, leader of a Pakistani opposition party, has accused the ruling regime of deliberately driving Pakistan towards a dangerous civil war. He made these remarks during a press conference where he strongly criticized the current political and social conditions in the country.

Achakzai stated that the government, wielding state resources and facilities, has restricted political and social activities and prevented the holding of public gatherings. According to him, this approach has increased dissatisfaction among various ethnic groups and political factions.

The opposition leader also emphasized that current policies have harmed the livelihoods of Pashtun and Baloch residents who depend on trade with Afghanistan. He noted that restrictions on movement and commerce along the border with Afghanistan have made life difficult for thousands of families.

Referring to Pakistan’s relations with India, Achakzai remarked that despite three wars between the two countries, Islamabad has never fully closed trade routes with India; however, it has adopted a different policy towards Afghanistan. These statements come amid a politically tense atmosphere in Pakistan, marked by widespread internal criticism and unrest over recent months.
