Three Major Electricity Projects Launched in Faryab Province with 1.12 Billion Afghanis Budget

Three major projects in the electricity transmission and distribution sector, valued at over 1.12 billion Afghanis, have been inaugurated and their implementation has begun in Faryab province. These projects include the extension of a 110-kilovolt line from Faryab central substation to the districts of Belcheragh and Gurziwan, the construction of a 110/20 kilovolt substation in Belcheragh, and the expansion of electricity distribution networks by installing transformers in Belcheragh and Pashtunkot.

According to an official statement, the opening ceremony took place on Tuesday in the presence of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Chief of the Taliban Cabinet’s Economic Affairs. The Taliban administration stated that the funding for these projects was provided from the domestic budget and that their execution was entrusted to the private sector.

As part of this plan, transformers with a capacity of 18 megavolt-amperes will be installed in Belcheragh district and 5 megavolt-amperes in Pashtunkot district. The purpose of these measures is to strengthen the distribution network and increase electricity transmission capacity in the mentioned areas.

Taliban officials say that upon completion of these projects within the next three years, electricity shortages in the affected regions will decrease and residents’ access to electric power will improve. However, some residents of Faryab have complained in recent years about electricity shortages and delays in implementing infrastructure projects, emphasizing that fulfilling these promises and transparent monitoring of budget expenditure are vital to gaining public trust.
