44 Kilometers of TAPI Pipeline Completed in Herat, Taliban Officials Report

The Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, during a visit to Herat province, inspected various sections of the TAPI pipeline project. Officials from the ministry announced that 44 kilometers of the gas pipeline route have been completed so far. They added that technical and construction work on the project has accelerated in recent months.
According to a statement released by Bakhtar Agency, Mawlawi Hidayatullah Badri closely examined the project’s implementation process and expressed satisfaction with the progress. He described the TAPI project as vital for the country’s economic growth, stating that it could create jobs and expand regional cooperation.
Meanwhile, Homayoun Afghan, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, said that in addition to the 44 kilometers completed, around 124 kilometers of the pipeline route have been prepared, with the necessary technical conditions in place to continue work.
The TAPI project is designed to transport Turkmenistan’s gas through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India, and is considered one of the largest economic initiatives in the region. Despite Taliban officials emphasizing progress on the project, some experts have consistently stressed the need for transparency, guaranteed security along the entire route, and clear information regarding funding sources and project management—issues fundamental to gaining trust from investors and local communities along the pipeline corridor.
