UN OCHA Warns Returning Women in Afghanistan Face Severe Vulnerabilities

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that women and girls returning to Afghanistan are among the most vulnerable groups, with many arriving without basic necessities. According to OCHA, these women and girls face significant restrictions in accessing essential services, education, livelihood opportunities, and protective support. The lack of financial resources, adequate shelter, and support networks further complicates their situation. Amid Taliban authorities imposing extensive limitations on girls’ education and women’s employment, concerns about the future of returning women have increased. These restrictions drastically reduce their access to education and the labor market, intensifying their economic and social dependence. OCHA emphasized that providing immediate humanitarian assistance to address the urgent needs of these women and girls is critical. Relief organizations warn that without targeted and sustainable support, the risks of poverty, homelessness, and social harm for this group will escalate.
