Floods in Badghis and Ghor Claim Five Lives and Destroy Hundreds of Homes

Local officials in Badghis and Ghor provinces have announced that recent floods have claimed the lives of at least five people, including one woman, and destroyed hundreds of residential homes. They warned that the number of casualties and damages could rise.

Barydad Saber, head of the Disaster Preparedness Department in Badghis, stated that three of the deceased were members of the same family. In addition to the loss of life, at least 30 homes in the province have been completely destroyed, and residents’ farmlands have also been damaged.

Reports indicate that on Wednesday evening, heavy rain accompanied by hail was recorded in the districts of Ab Kamari, Bala Murghab, Muqur, Qadis, and Ghurmach in Badghis province. These downpours triggered the devastating floods.

Meanwhile, the press office of the governor of Ghor announced that the floods on the previous day in the village of Je, located in the Murghab district of Ghor province, destroyed nearly 100 homes, dozens of acres of agricultural land, and numerous fruit-bearing and non-fruit-bearing trees.

According to the statement, the life of the villagers has been severely affected, and they urgently need humanitarian assistance, including shelter, food supplies, and other basic necessities.
