Flooding Temporarily Closes Mazar-i-Sharif–Samangan Highway

Local Taliban officials in Samangan have reported that the Mazar-i-Sharif–Samangan highway has been temporarily closed due to flooding in the Tangeh Tashqurghan area. The Taliban’s police command in Samangan confirmed the closure on Thursday, April 22, in an official statement.

According to these officials, the Taliban’s Public Works Department in Samangan is working to reopen the road to traffic as soon as possible. However, no exact timeline for reopening the highway has been announced yet.

The Mazar-i-Sharif–Samangan highway is an important transit route in northern Afghanistan, connecting northern provinces to Kabul. Its closure could disrupt the travel of thousands of residents and impede the transportation of commercial goods.

Meanwhile, reports from Faryab province indicate that flooding has caused damage in the districts of Pashtun Kot and Dawlatabad. Local sources have stated that in Dawlatabad district, a portion of agricultural land has been damaged due to the floodwaters.

So far, there have been no reports of human casualties related to these events, and the exact extent of financial losses remains unknown.
