UNICEF Announces Construction and Renovation of Over 200 Schools Across Afghanistan in 2025

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that more than 200 schools have been built or renovated in various parts of Afghanistan in 2025. According to the agency, the goal of this initiative is to expand children’s access to safe learning environments across the country.
On Tuesday, the first of Sowr (April 23), UNICEF posted on the social media platform X that safe educational spaces in Afghanistan have been created in diverse forms. These spaces include formal schools as well as community-based educational programs and emergency learning settings, the organization said.
According to UNICEF’s annual report, over 20 million people in Afghanistan benefited from the organization’s support services in 2025, of whom 5.6 million were children. These supports cover various sectors including education, child protection, and humanitarian aid.
Furthermore, UNICEF stated that during this period, four million children received educational materials and learning supplies through schools and community-based educational programs. This comes amid serious challenges to Afghanistan’s education system in recent years, including restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration on girls’ education. International organizations have consistently emphasized the rights of all children to equal access to education.
