Taliban Establishes Detailed Information Bank to Document Achievements and Facilitate Media Access

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban administration, announced that the group has created a detailed information bank to document what it describes as “achievements and progress.” According to Mujahid, the aim of establishing this database is to provide easy access for media to official information and to counter what he called “enemy propaganda.”

Mujahid made these remarks yesterday during a ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Arg Palace. He stated that every step in the field of information dissemination can positively impact people’s lives and the structure of the system, emphasizing that the Taliban administration has made progress in all sectors.

The Taliban spokesperson added that the newly established information bank is intended to provide “accurate and timely” information about the administration’s activities and plans, so that media outlets can use it regularly. He tasked spokespersons of various institutions with the responsibility of providing relevant information to this database in an accurate and timely manner.

Mujahid also referred to the active media in the country, stating that the media outlets that have remained after the recent developments in Afghanistan have “national roots” and their activities are credible. This comes despite reports in recent years of extensive restrictions on media and journalists across different regions of the country, with several media outlets ceasing operations due to pressures and limitations imposed by the Taliban administration.

Media experts have previously emphasized that free access to information and ensuring media independence are fundamental principles of transparency and accountability to the public — a major demand that continues to be strongly voiced by journalists and civil society organizations in Afghanistan.
