UN OCHA Allocates $73.4 Million to 71 Agencies for 119 Aid Projects in Afghanistan in 2026
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that it will allocate $73.4 million to 71 aid organizations to implement 119 projects in Afghanistan in 2026. These projects are designed to address the urgent needs of vulnerable populations.
On Sunday, March 19, OCHA emphasized in a report that given the continued high level of need this year, timely and flexible funding is vital to sustain life-saving assistance. The agency warned that without sustained financial support, humanitarian efforts will face significant challenges.
According to the report, OCHA allocated the same amount—$73.4 million—to 71 organizations for 119 projects in 2025 as well, which, according to the office, reached the most vulnerable people across various regions of the country.
Earlier, OCHA had announced that approximately 22 million people in Afghanistan will require humanitarian assistance in 2026. To meet this level of need, the agency has requested a budget of $1.7 billion.
The ongoing economic crisis, existing restrictions, and widespread vulnerability of residents in many provinces have left Afghanistan among the world’s largest humanitarian crises. This situation continues to sustain the reliance of millions on international aid in the current year.
