Hundreds of Firearms Seized in Herat Over Six Months, Taliban Security Officials Say

Officials from the Taliban’s security department in Herat province announced that during several separate operations over the past six months, they have seized hundreds of weapons, including Kalashnikov rifles and handguns.

According to the Anti-Terrorism Police of this department, these arms were obtained through targeted operations in various parts of Herat. No further details have been released regarding the exact locations of the seizures or the individuals involved.

Herat, a key province in western Afghanistan bordering Iran, has long been a source of concern due to arms smuggling and criminal activities. Security experts emphasize that the widespread presence of illegal weapons in the country remains a serious challenge to achieving lasting security.

So far, the Taliban administration has not provided statistics on any arrests related to these weapons, and it remains unclear from where these arms were sourced or stored.
