Significant Changes Shake US Military Leadership Amid Ongoing War

The pace of senior military officials’ dismissals in the United States has noticeably increased. Following the resignation of Joe Kent, head of the US National Counterterrorism Center, who stepped down in protest against the war with Iran, reports have surfaced about the removal of Randy George, Chief of Staff of the US Army.
Subsequently, commanders such as David Hodne and William Green Jr. have also been mentioned among those dismissed or facing potential reassignment. According to some reports, these individuals represent only part of a broader group of senior officers who have undergone changes in recent days.
At the same time, indications suggest the trend is expanding into the political realm, including the departure of US Attorney General Pam Bondi, possibly related to this context. Reports about potential changes involving figures such as Kash Patel, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, and Daniel Driscoll are also circulating.
A government preparing to launch a significant and decisive war naturally organizes its military and political structure in advance. Such a volume of changes and dismissals amid a critical war is certainly not normal.
These developments can be viewed as a serious sign of dysfunction or tension at the highest levels of decision-making.
However, the key point is not merely the occurrence of these changes, but their underlying causes.
Two main scenarios can be considered here:
1. These changes might represent an effort to assign responsibility for military performance and failure to commanders. In other words, the shifts could be a form of repositioning to manage the consequences of failure and divert public attention from President Trump to field commanders and political figures.
2. Another scenario is that some of these individuals disagreed with the continuation of the war or certain operational approaches that are inhumane and violate international conventions, leading to their removal.
Trump has openly spoken about taking Iran back to the Stone Age and seizing its oil and wealth. As an unethical individual, he may commit any atrocity to achieve his goals, and it is natural that many American politicians and military officials do not want their names linked alongside Trump’s in crimes against humanity.
Alongside these two scenarios, there is also the possibility that these changes are part of a deliberate reorganization to fully align the military and political structures with Trump’s approaches.
Overall, even if there is no certainty yet about the exact reasons for these developments, their timing and scope indicate that a tense reset is underway within the upper echelons of power in Washington.
