At Least 61 Dead in Recent Floods Across 25 Afghan Provinces, Widespread Damage Reported

The Taliban administration has announced that following heavy rains and floods across 25 provinces in the country, at least 61 people have died and 116 others have been injured. According to the administration, four people have also been reported missing so far.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban administration, released these statistics on Saturday, 4 April, stating that the floods have also caused extensive financial damage. Based on the provided information, 2,448 residential houses have been either fully or partially destroyed.
Additionally, 26,841 acres of agricultural land have been damaged as a result of these natural disasters, which could seriously impact the livelihoods of thousands of residents, especially farmers in the affected areas. Afghanistan is considered one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change and witnesses similar incidents annually across various provinces.
The Taliban administration also reported the deaths of 1,045 livestock animals in these floods. Despite the recurrence of such events in recent years, questions remain about the preparedness of responsible institutions in disaster management, immediate assistance to the victims, and the implementation of preventive programs—issues that require urgent attention and practical action to reduce casualties in the future.
