Over 1,000 Afghan Migrants Detained in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amid Crackdown

Amid an intensified crackdown on undocumented migrants in Pakistan, hundreds of Afghan migrants have been detained in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Pakistani media report that these detentions coincided with the launch of a widespread campaign against illegal residency.

According to Pakistani police, more than one thousand Afghan migrants have been arrested in the city of Peshawar alone. The figures indicate that a total of 1,044 undocumented migrants were detained during these operations.

Pakistani officials stated that the purpose of conducting these operations was to maintain public order and prevent potential incidents following border tensions. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province bordering Afghanistan, has long been home to a large number of Afghan migrants.

In recent months, the rate of detention and deportation of undocumented Afghan migrants has increased across various parts of Pakistan, raising concerns among migrant families about the fate of those detained.
