500 Free Eye Surgeries Conducted in Helmand Province

Health officials in Helmand Province report that 500 eye surgeries have been performed free of charge over the past ten days at the Fatemeh Bayat 50-Bed Hospital. Dr. Fateh, head of Helmand’s public health department, told Pajhwok News that the procedures were carried out by seven specialist doctors from the Ministry of Public Health.

According to Dr. Fateh, during the campaign, approximately 7,000 patients visited the hospital for eye examinations. Of them, 580 underwent laboratory testing, and around 800 people received prescription glasses for nearsightedness. In addition to those services, 500 patients in need received eye surgeries at no cost.

The head of Helmand’s public health department expressed his appreciation for the specialists who traveled from the capital and called for similar programs to continue, so that patients still in need can benefit as well. The initiative officially concluded yesterday.
