Russia Reports Large-Scale Attack on Kyiv in Response to Ukrainian Drone Strikes
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the country’s armed forces have launched a large-scale attack targeting defense industry facilities in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, in response to Ukrainian drone attacks. According to Moscow, this action followed nighttime strikes by Ukrainian forces.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said the operation was carried out using precision-guided weapons from ground bases and targeted Ukraine’s military-industrial complex facilities in Kyiv. Moscow claimed the attack was a response to what it described as “attacks against civilian infrastructure on Russian soil.”
According to the statement, facilities related to the Ukrainian company Samsung, which Russia alleges to have been involved in the production and storage of components for the ground-launched cruise missile “Flamingo FB-5,” were targeted during the operation. Additionally, a workshop assembling long-range and medium-range drones was also among the targets.
At the same time, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 415 Ukrainian drones over various regions of Russia last night. The ministry specified that these drones were shot down over the regions of Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Vologda, Voronezh, Vladimir, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Rostov, Ryazan, Samara, Saratov, Tula, and Moscow, as well as the Krasnodar territory, the republics of Crimea and Tatarstan, and over the waters of the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.
The war between Russia and Ukraine, which began in 2022, has recently seen an increase in drone and missile attacks deep inside the territory of both countries, expanding the scope of the conflict beyond frontline positions.
