UN Chief Urges Immediate Repeal of Israel’s Restrictive UNRWA Law

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed deep concern over the humanitarian consequences of Israel’s recent law restricting the activities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Guterres has called on Israel to revoke the law without delay.

According to Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Guterres condemned the legislation, emphasizing that continuing limitations on UNRWA’s work could seriously jeopardize the access of millions of Palestinian residents to vital assistance.

Meanwhile, the Hamas movement issued a statement condemning Israel’s efforts to revoke the operating licenses of dozens of international aid organizations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, describing it as a dangerous escalation of the current situation.

Hamas added that such measures represent a blatant disregard for the international community and the humanitarian system, potentially leading to the deliberate politicization of aid activities—an issue that has heightened concern among humanitarian bodies worldwide.
