Taliban Police in Faryab Hand Over Dozens of Weapons to Disarmament Program

The Taliban-run Ministry of Interior has announced that police in Faryab province have handed over 46 firearms and a quantity of ammunition to the DAiAG program, after collecting them from various parts of the province.

According to a statement from the ministry’s press office, the handover took place in the presence of local Faryab officials. However, it remains unclear from whom the weapons were seized and under what circumstances.

The DAiAG (Disbandment of Illegal Armed Groups) program is responsible for collecting and destroying illicit weapons in Afghanistan. In the past, the initiative has been part of broader efforts to reduce the number of arms held by unauthorized individuals and armed groups.

The ongoing disarmament process comes amid criticism that the Taliban themselves have distributed thousands of weapons to their members across different provinces without oversight, while evading accountability for state-owned arms.
