Kidnapped Child Freed in Kandahar Following Police Operation

The Directorate of Interior Affairs in Kandahar Province announced that a child who was kidnapped in the third district of Kandahar city was freed by police forces as a result of an intelligence operation conducted in cooperation with other security agencies.
The child had been abducted the day before by unidentified individuals, who demanded a ransom of ten million afghanis from the family for the child’s release.
In connection with the case, two suspects were detained by the police. After preliminary investigations, they have been referred to judicial and legal authorities for further examination.
Despite this police action, serious questions remain regarding the increase in kidnapping incidents and overall security weaknesses in cities, especially in provinces like Kandahar—a matter that demands serious accountability from the Taliban administration.
The Taliban administration, which claims responsibility for providing security, has consistently failed to ensure the safety of citizens, particularly children. The public perception of rising insecurity raises concerns about the capacity and willingness of this administration to effectively combat crime.
