China Voices Concern Over Safety of Its Investors in Afghanistan and Pakistan

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed serious concern over rising tensions and clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, urging both sides to take necessary measures to ensure the security of Chinese citizens and investors.

A spokesperson for the ministry called on the governments of both countries to act in accordance with their international commitments and responsibilities to safeguard the lives and assets of Chinese nationals.

In recent years, China has made extensive investments in various sectors in Afghanistan and Pakistan, particularly in infrastructure, energy, and natural resources. At the same time, a significant number of Chinese employees and citizens are active in these countries.

This concern arises amid the shared border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, especially in unstable areas such as the Durand Line, which has repeatedly been the scene of border clashes, challenging regional security. The Taliban administration, which holds power in Afghanistan, has so far not provided a clear response regarding the guarantee of security for foreign projects and the citizens of partner governments, including China.
