US Strikes Drug Trafficking Vessel in Caribbean Amid Controversy

The United States Southern Command has reported a renewed attack by US forces on a vessel in the Caribbean Sea, claiming that the boat was carrying narcotics. According to the military body, the operation took place in international waters.
The announcement states that US forces targeted three vessels linked to drug trafficking. The command justified the killing of those aboard by accusing them of drug smuggling, claiming that three people died as a result of the attack.
Meanwhile, CBS News has reported that the US military has destroyed dozens of vessels off the coasts of Latin America in recent months under the pretext of combating drug trafficking; these operations have reportedly resulted in around 100 fatalities.
In response to this approach, several human rights groups have warned about the consequences of these operations, describing them as extrajudicial executions and even war crimes. These organizations have called for transparency, accountability, and adherence to international law principles in such military operations.
