Commission on Migrants Holds Meeting to Accelerate Aid for Returnees

The Supreme Commission for Addressing Migrants’ Issues, chaired by Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, the Deputy Administrative Head of the Prime Minister’s Office under the Taliban administration, held a meeting aimed at exploring practical ways to expedite aid delivery and improve the land distribution process for returning migrants.
This meeting followed new directives from the Taliban leader, previously issued in Kandahar during a meeting with members of the commission. These directives emphasized the distribution of wheat and cash assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock’s reserves to families who were forcibly expelled.
According to these directives, the Afghan Red Crescent Society and the National Disaster Management Authority have also been tasked with preparing and providing aid packages for the current winter season using available resources. These packages are intended for returnees, many of whom have come back without adequate preparation or support.
In its recent meeting, the Supreme Commission for Addressing Migrants’ Issues announced that discussions were held on practical mechanisms to implement these directives more swiftly, and decisions were made accordingly. However, civil society organizations and affected families continuously stress that temporary aid is insufficient to meet the extensive needs of returnees. They urge the Taliban administration to prioritize sustainable, transparent programs based on human dignity.
