Eight Militants Killed in Waziristan; Islamabad Issues Stern Warning to Taliban

The Pakistani military has announced that at least eight militants were killed during security forces’ operations in North Waziristan. According to the military, these individuals were targeted in clashes with Pakistani forces along the border with Afghanistan. Islamabad claims that these fighters were “affiliated with India.”
In its statement, the Pakistani army said that several members of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan engaged in a confrontation with security forces on Wednesday, resulting in the discovery and seizure of weapons and ammunition. North Waziristan has long been considered a volatile area along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
The Pakistani military emphasized that operations in the region are ongoing, while simultaneously accusing the Taliban administration of failing to effectively manage the borders within Afghan territory. The army’s official statement noted that the Taliban administration has faced a “shameful failure” in this regard and must prevent the use of Afghan soil against Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Asif Ali Zardari, the President of Pakistan, has called on the Taliban administration to take practical steps in combating terrorism. In official rhetoric, Islamabad refers to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan as “Khawarij,” a group whose attacks in recent years have repeatedly escalated tensions between the two sides.
