Trump Urges Countries to Secure Strait of Hormuz on Their Own Amid Fuel Shortages

Donald Trump, President of the United States, announced on Tuesday, March 31, that countries facing jet fuel shortages due to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz must take personal responsibility for meeting their needs. He emphasized that the U.S. will no longer provide support for these countries as it did in the past.

In a message posted on the social media platform Truth Social addressed to these countries, Trump wrote that they can purchase the fuel they need from the United States, which he claimed has sufficient reserves. He also suggested that these countries “show courage” and take action themselves to reopen the Strait’s passage.

The U.S. president referred to the United Kingdom, stating that it has refrained from participating in actions against Iran’s sovereignty. He added that countries need to learn to defend themselves and should not always expect the United States to intervene and assist.

Trump also asserted that Iran is “virtually incapacitated” and said the difficult part of the job has already been done.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes, and any disruption there can impact global oil and fuel markets. The Strait has been under Iranian control since the start of the war, and the United States has been unable to wrest control from Iran.
