Taliban’s Foreign Minister Meets Iranian Ambassador to Discuss Regional Tensions and Bilateral Cooperation

Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban administration’s foreign minister, met with Ali-Reza Beikdeli, Iran’s ambassador to Kabul, to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues. The Taliban Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the main focus of the talks was political and economic cooperation as well as the current situation in the region.

According to the ministry’s newsletter, Mr. Muttaqi described what he termed “the aggressions of the US and Israel against Iran” as detrimental to the countries in the region. He added that escalating tensions could impact regional stability.

The Taliban foreign minister also spoke about the increasing level of trade exchanges between Afghanistan and Iran and expressed appreciation for the Iranian officials’ stance regarding recent developments between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Iran’s ambassador to Kabul described the two countries’ relations, especially in trade, as expanding. He also emphasized that Tehran is closely monitoring the situation between Afghanistan and Pakistan and desires a peaceful resolution to the issue.
