The Deputy Water Minister of the Taliban-led Ministry of Water and Energy has made an official visit to Uzbekistan to participate in the international “Tashkent Water Week” summit. This event brings together senior officials, technical experts, and relevant water sector organizations from various countries.

According to released information, the trip aims to strengthen water resource management, enhance regional coordination, and expand joint cooperation at both regional and global levels. Afghanistan, as a country whose significant water resources are shared with neighboring states, has faced serious challenges in sustainable water management and utilization in recent years.

The “Tashkent Water Week” summit focuses on topics such as sustainable use of water resources, the impacts of climate change, and equitable water distribution. Afghanistan’s participation in such gatherings can pave the way for technical dialogues and regional collaborations, although experts consistently emphasize the importance of transparency, practical planning, and accountability by the Taliban administration in managing the country’s vital resources.

With important water sources across various basins, Afghanistan plays a key role in regional water dynamics, and the way it manages these resources can have a direct impact on its economic and political relations with neighboring countries.
