Fasihuddin Warns of Firm Response if Pakistan Continues Ceasefire Violations Along Durand Line

Hafiz Muhammad Fasihuddin ‘Fitr,’ Chief of Staff of the Taliban Armed Forces, stated in an Eid al-Fitr message that despite a ceasefire agreement between Afghanistan and Pakistan mediated by friendly countries, clashes and violations by Pakistan along the Durand Line persist.
He warned that the repeated breaches could render the ceasefire “meaningless,” and in such a case, the Taliban administration would issue a “decisive response.” According to him, the ongoing tensions along this border continue to keep the situation fragile.
The Durand Line, which has been a source of contention between Afghanistan and Pakistan since its demarcation, has witnessed frequent border skirmishes and exchanges of fire between the two sides in recent years. These tensions persist while residents of the border areas continually suffer from insecurity and instability.
Despite the declared ceasefire, the continuation of hostilities indicates the absence of a clear mechanism for monitoring and enforcing the agreement; a situation that once again highlights concerns over the Taliban administration’s ability to manage security and diplomacy effectively.
