Democratic Senators Call for Public Hearing on War with Iran, Demand Accountability from Top Officials

Several Democratic members of the U.S. Senate have called for a public hearing regarding the ongoing war with Iran, emphasizing that senior government officials must be held accountable before Congress.

According to the publication Politico, these senators have stated that the American people have the right to hear official explanations about the reasons and scope of this war in an open session. They stressed that holding such a session is essential for transparency and congressional oversight of war decisions.

The Democratic senators warned that if the relevant officials are not summoned to provide explanations, they will reintroduce votes on war authorization measures in the Senate. Under the U.S. political system, Congress has the authority to oversee the president’s war powers.

In a joint statement, the senators said that Pete Hegseth, Secretary of the Army, and Marco Rubio, Secretary of State, should immediately appear before Congress in a public hearing to explain the reasons for entering this war.

The Democratic senators also emphasized that American citizens are unwilling to bear the costs of another prolonged and endless war through their taxes. The statement concluded by saying that now is the time for Democrats to use all their political influence to stop what they called an “unnecessary war.”
