Afghanistan Destroys 1,290 Tons of Expired and Low-Quality Medicines and Food Products

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Health under the Taliban administration has announced that over the past year, 1,290 tons of expired, low-quality, and illegal medicines, food items, and health products have been collected and destroyed across the country.

According to Sharafat Zaman Amarkhail, this amount of material was gathered by monitoring teams from the Ministry of Public Health in Kabul and several provinces before being incinerated.

Officials from the ministry stated that monitoring of pharmacies, food supply centers, and other health-related sectors continues to prevent the distribution of substandard products in the market.

Quality control of medicines and food items is a crucial health issue in Afghanistan because consuming low-quality products can pose serious risks to citizens’ health.
