Taliban Authorities Say Railway Transfers from Four Ports Continue Uninterrupted

The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works has announced that the transfer of export and import goods via railway at four of the country’s ports is proceeding normally without any interruptions. Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesperson for the ministry, stated that in the past week alone, 127,650 tons of goods have been transported via railway, a portion of which consists of Afghan exports. According to him, the highest volume of transfers during this period occurred through the Hairatan port in Balkh province, reaching 88,186 tons. Hairatan is considered one of the most important trade corridors in the northern region of the country and plays a key role in trade with neighboring countries. The Ministry of Public Works spokesperson further added that during this time, 265 tons of Afghan export goods were transported out of the country via railway. While the Taliban administration highlights the normalcy of rail transport operations, merchants have repeatedly emphasized the need for greater transparency in reporting statistics, reduced transit costs, and the establishment of practical facilities at ports—issues that they believe could enhance the railway’s role in boosting the country’s economic growth.
