EU Allocates €11 Million to Improve Veterinary Services in Afghanistan
The European Union delegation in Afghanistan has announced that the EU is allocating €11 million to improve veterinary services, enhance animal health, and strengthen food security in the country.
According to the delegation, this aid can cover 300,000 families in 17 provinces and help establish livelihoods resilient to climate change. This support was announced during the “Symposium on the Development of Afghanistan’s Veterinary Workforce.”
On Tuesday, August 4, the EU delegation published a statement on Twitter indicating that the funds will be utilized through the “Holland Committee for Afghanistan.”
In recent years, outbreaks of various animal diseases have inflicted significant losses on livestock owners, impacting the livelihoods of many families. Experts cite factors such as drought, climate change, cross-border livestock movement, lack of veterinary services in some areas, and reduced vaccination coverage among the reasons for the spread of these diseases. Livestock farming is a vital part of Afghanistan’s rural economy, with a large portion of provincial populations depending on it.
