UNICEF Reports Nearly 22 Million People in Afghanistan Need Humanitarian Aid in 2026

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has stated in its latest report that nearly 22 million people in Afghanistan will require humanitarian assistance in 2026, accounting for about half of the country’s population. According to the report, 11.6 million of those in need are children, highlighting the severity of the humanitarian crisis and its widespread impact on Afghanistan’s younger generation. UNICEF also warned that it requires $949.1 million in funding to implement humanitarian programs in the current year but has so far secured only 42 percent of this amount. This decrease in financial resources comes amid Afghanistan’s deepening economic and social challenges following recent political developments and restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration. Aid organizations have repeatedly emphasized that if this situation continues, access to basic services such as education, health, and nutrition for millions across the country will face serious threats.
