Taliban Spokesman Calls UN Security Council Meeting Ineffective, Demands Afghan Representation

Zabiullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban administration, has stated that the upcoming United Nations Security Council meeting holds no expectations for his administration, describing the council as having ‘lost its value.’ He further emphasized that Afghanistan should have representation at such meetings, but that right has been denied to the country.
Mujahid highlighted that Afghanistan is currently facing issues including what he termed as ‘Pakistan’s aggression,’ and claimed that attacks on civilians continue. He also alleged that Afghan refugees in Pakistan are facing serious problems.
At the same time, the Taliban spokesperson criticized the Security Council for holding repetitive meetings on other issues instead of addressing these concerns. This comes as Afghanistan, following the Taliban’s regained control over Kabul, does not hold an official seat at the United Nations, and representatives from the Taliban administration do not participate in official Security Council meetings.
The Taliban administration has not yet been recognized by the UN as the official government of Afghanistan, and the seat representing Afghanistan at the UN remains occupied by representatives from the previous government—a key political challenge in international dealings with Afghanistan.
