Amrullah Saleh Rejects ‘Taliban Formula,’ Criticizes Taliban’s Prisoner Release

Amrullah Saleh, former Vice President of Afghanistan, sharply criticized the Taliban administration’s performance, stating that the Afghan people have long recognized both their internal and external enemies and do not need any “Taliban formula” to safeguard national interests. He also revealed that the Taliban recently released three Pakistani prisoners, handing them over to the Saudi Arabian Embassy, an action he described as questionable.
Saleh remarked that even before the emergence of the “Quetta Shura,” its nature and purpose were clear to many. He emphasized that Afghan history openly records the intentions behind the formation of this council. He insisted that Afghans do not require imposed strategies or solutions from the Taliban to protect their national and regional interests.
According to Saleh, Taliban-run prisons are currently filled with Afghan citizens, while, in contrast, the three Pakistani prisoners were released with gifts and clothing and respectfully handed over to the Saudi Embassy. He urged the public to consult available sources to compare the situation of Afghan detainees with this action.
In conclusion, Saleh stressed the importance of preserving historical memory, stating that events must be documented and respected. This issue has sparked widespread criticism and reactions amid the current environment in Afghanistan, especially regarding the Taliban’s treatment of detainees.
