Taliban Administration Oversees Over 10,000 Orphaned Children Across Afghanistan

The Taliban’s Department of Labor and Social Affairs has announced that currently, more than 10,000 orphaned children are being cared for in orphanages nationwide under its supervision. According to the department, these children are provided not only with education but also with necessary living facilities.
Samiaullah Ebrahimi, the spokesperson for the department, stated that since the Taliban’s return to power, over 50,000 cases involving orphaned children, children returning from neighboring countries, and missing children have been registered and reviewed.
He added that relevant agencies are working to identify these children from various parts of the country and transfer them to orphanages, aiming to rescue them from what he described as an “uncertain fate.”
However, no independent details have been released regarding the actual conditions of these orphanages, the quality of educational and psychological services, or the oversight process concerning the care of these children. Previously, child rights organizations have emphasized the need for transparency, impartial supervision, and the provision of a safe and standard environment for orphaned children in the country.
