Airstrikes in Nangarhar and Paktika; Taliban Authorities Report School Targeted

Local sources report extensive airstrikes in the Bermal and Argun districts of Paktika province, as well as in the Khogyani district of Nangarhar province. According to these sources, the attacks took place last evening and affected several residential areas.

A spokesperson for the Taliban’s Promotion of Virtue department stated that Pakistani military aircraft bombed a “school” in Bermal district, Paktika province. So far, no detailed information has been released regarding potential casualties from the incident.

Nangarhar’s Public Health Department also announced that the province’s deputy governor, the head of public health, and several civilian and military officials visited the Behsud district to inspect a house that local authorities claimed was targeted in the airstrike. The deputy governor of Nangarhar has ordered rescue and relief teams to expedite assistance to those affected.

This event comes amid prior warnings from the Pakistani army that retaliatory actions would be taken following the killing of two of its security personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Given the sensitive situation in the border areas, concerns over escalating military tensions and their impact on civilians on both sides of the border have increased.

In recent years, the border regions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have frequently experienced clashes and airstrikes; events that have consistently inflicted the most harm on civilians and sparked criticism of the Taliban administration’s inability to ensure nationwide security.
