Taliban Administration Certifies 500 Male Specialist Doctors, No Female Graduates for Fourth Year

On Tuesday, February 17, the Taliban’s Ministry of Public Health announced that 500 male specialist doctors have received certification from the ‘General Directorate of Specialist Supplies.’ According to the ministry, these doctors were awarded their certificates after completing specialized training courses.

However, for the fourth consecutive year, no female doctors have graduated from this directorate. Educational restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration have prevented girls from continuing their medical studies.

The Taliban not only halted the education of girls in the medical field but also banned their studies in nursing and midwifery departments. These decisions have been widely criticized by domestic and international organizations and have raised concerns about the shortage of female healthcare staff in hospitals and medical centers across the country.

Health experts have repeatedly warned that in Afghan society, especially in remote areas, the presence of female doctors and healthcare workers is essential for providing services to female patients. Continuing these restrictions could further limit women’s access to healthcare services.
