Former Kapisa Mayor Aziz-ur-Rehman Afzali Returns to Afghanistan Via Contact Commission

The Contact Commission with Afghan Personalities announced that Aziz-ur-Rehman Afzali, the former mayor of Kapisa province under the previous administration, has returned to the country after residing in the United States. According to the commission, his return was facilitated through the official mechanisms of this body.
Based on the released information, Mr. Afzali returned to Afghanistan in coordination with the mentioned commission and, like other former officials, received a “protection card.” The Taliban administration had previously stated that security guarantees would be provided for officials and employees of the former administration who return to the country.
The Contact Commission with Afghan Personalities has reported the return of several officials and figures affiliated with the former government in recent months. However, detailed information about the conditions of these guarantees and how the protection of returning individuals is monitored has not been transparently made available to the public—a matter that has consistently attracted the attention and concerns of families and observers.
