Taliban Health Minister Meets IOM Chief to Discuss Expanding Healthcare Cooperation in Afghanistan

Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, the Taliban administration’s Minister of Public Health, met with Park Meehyung, the Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Afghanistan, to discuss expanding cooperation in healthcare services. The meeting focused on providing essential health services to returnees, internally displaced persons, and other vulnerable groups.

The Ministry of Public Health announced that the meeting also covered how to implement joint agreements and enhance coordination between the two parties. According to published information, the goal of this cooperation is to improve access to primary healthcare services in the areas most in need.

Both sides emphasized strengthening healthcare infrastructure, rehabilitating and equipping health centers, and increasing the capacity of healthcare workers. This comes amid serious challenges faced by Afghanistan’s healthcare system due to political developments in recent years and reduced international aid, particularly in funding, equipment, and human resources.

The International Organization for Migration is a key agency providing humanitarian assistance to displaced persons and returnees in Afghanistan, and its continued collaboration with domestic entities could play a significant role in improving healthcare services in several provinces.
