Wide-Scale Tree Planting Campaign Launched in Herat City

The municipality of the western district of Herat has announced the launch of an extensive tree planting campaign in the provincial capital, during which approximately 28,000 non-fruit-bearing saplings will be planted across various parts of the city. This initiative aims to expand green spaces, improve the urban environment, and enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal.
The campaign was inaugurated on Tuesday with a ceremony held at the Martyr Officers Park. At the event, Mullah Nematullah Hassan Sahib, the Mayor of Herat, stated that the municipality plans to plant different types of saplings in areas most in need of green space, and that this process will continue throughout all prioritized locations in the city.
The mayor emphasized the crucial role of citizens in protecting the environment, urging city residents to actively participate in maintaining green areas and engage in the nationwide tree planting campaign. He added that the program’s success is impossible without public cooperation.
Meanwhile, Mawlawi Abdul Ahad Kheirkhah, Head of Urban Management, referenced sayings of the Prophet Muhammad regarding the importance of planting trees, highlighting that attention to green spaces is both a religious and social responsibility. He called on local representatives, heads of development councils, and all Herat residents to fully cooperate with the municipality in expanding and preserving urban green areas.
Several city residents, local representatives, and development council heads from different districts of Herat welcomed the campaign and expressed their readiness to assist in planting saplings and protecting the city’s greenery.
According to the municipality, the campaign will plant saplings such as acacia, cypress, redbud, Indian coral, pine, as well as various ornamental flowering shrubs in locations including Band-e Pashdan, main roads, parks, and other priority areas throughout the city.
