Taliban Finance Ministry Bans Drug Imports from Pakistan at Customs

The Finance Department under the Taliban administration has announced that, based on a previous decision, drug imports from Pakistan will no longer be allowed through the country’s customs. Preventing the entry of drugs and other smuggled goods is now a priority. Abdul Qayyum Nasir, spokesperson for the department, stated that any smuggled goods discovered and seized outside customs areas will lead to the prosecution of those responsible, and the confiscated items will be destroyed according to court rulings. According to him, this measure is part of efforts to control illegal imports and regulate the market; however, no specific details have been provided regarding supervision of the quality and availability of alternative medicines. The Finance Department has urged traders to import drugs through alternative routes and sources instead of Pakistani medicines, promising to facilitate this process further. Nonetheless, without transparency and precise planning, this policy could raise concerns about residents’ access to necessary medications.
