Trump Meets Colombian President Gustavo Petro at the White House

The White House announced that Donald Trump, the President of the United States, will meet today, Tuesday, with Gustavo Petro, the President of Colombia, at the White House. The meeting is scheduled to take place at 4 PM GMT according to the official agenda.
According to information released by the White House Press Office, Trump will welcome the Colombian president in the Oval Office. It has been stated that the meeting will be held behind closed doors without the presence of journalists.
This meeting takes place amid Trump’s foreign policy toward Latin America, which is described as interventionist and influenced by the Monroe Doctrine; a doctrine that critics argue underpins Washington’s efforts to expand political influence and dominance over the countries in the region.
Previously, Trump had accused the Colombian government, along with several other Latin American governments, of being incapable of controlling drug trafficking. These remarks triggered sharp responses from Gustavo Petro on social media, leading to verbal tensions between the two presidents—tensions that still loom over today’s official meeting.
