US Central Command Confirms New Attacks on Targets in Iran Following Cargo Ship Incident

The US Central Command in the Middle East (CENTCOM) has confirmed that US forces have launched their third round of attacks against Iran this week. According to CENTCOM, the operations were carried out at 7:15 PM Eastern Time, but specific details about the targeted areas have not been disclosed.

CENTCOM claimed that this action follows an attack attributed to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on the Cyprus-flagged container ship ‘MV GFS Galaxy.’ The statement said the vessel experienced an internal fire and extensive damage to its engine room while passing through the Strait of Hormuz, losing the ability to continue its journey. It was also alleged that one civilian crew member is missing.

The command added that Iran had previously been warned about attacks on commercial ships and was given an opportunity to adhere to what the US described as a “memorandum of understanding.” However, according to the US, Iran has once again failed to comply with this commitment.

Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wrote on the social media platform X that Iran “made a bad choice” and is now “paying the price.”

A US official also told Axios that the recent attacks targeted radar sites, missile and drone storage facilities, as well as their launch platforms.

As of the time of publication, Iranian officials have not issued any official public response to the claims made by the United States.
