Taliban-led Central Bank Burns 588 Million Afghani Worth of Worn Banknotes

The Taliban-run Central Bank has announced that it has collected and officially burned 588 million and 140 thousand Afghanis of worn-out currency from circulation in Deh Sabz district of Kabul. This action was taken to maintain monetary order and facilitate everyday transactions.
According to the provided information, the burned banknotes included denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100, and 500 Afghanis, which had become unusable in transactions due to wear and unsuitability.
Mullah Mohammad Akhund, the Second Deputy of the Central Bank, stated that the institution periodically collects and destroys worn-out money from the market in accordance with existing regulations to provide citizens with easy and reliable economic transactions.
He added that new banknotes are injected into the market to replace the destroyed ones so that the country’s residents can carry out their daily financial affairs without problems or delays. He also urged citizens to take proper care in the use and preservation of the Afghani currency.
The Central Bank further mentioned that the burning process of these banknotes was conducted once, after loading by the appointed committee and in the presence of representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Finance, and security agencies, using special furnaces.
