Taliban’s Ambassador in Moscow Expresses Afghanistan’s Interest in Buying Russian Oil and Gas

The Taliban administration’s ambassador in Moscow has announced that Afghanistan intends to purchase its needed oil and gas from Russia, provided financial conditions improve, particularly with the easing of banking restrictions.

Gul Hasan Hasan, the Taliban’s ambassador, told TASS news agency that lifting certain sanctions could pave the way for Afghanistan to import various goods from Russia. According to him, these imports would include oil, gas, medicine, industrial products, grain, cooking oil, and other items.

He added that Afghanistan, in return, could export goods such as dried and fresh fruits, vegetables, medicinal plants, carpets, and minerals to Russia. He believes such exchanges have the potential to increase bilateral trade between Kabul and Moscow.

The report also mentions ongoing efforts to organize an exhibition of Afghan products in Moscow; a move that could help introduce domestic products and create new commercial opportunities. These remarks come amid reports yesterday about the resumption of the Taliban administration’s engagement with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, while ongoing sanctions and banking restrictions remain major obstacles to normalizing Afghanistan’s economic relations with the world.
