Turkey Detains 39 Afghan Refugees, Including 17 Children, in Çanakkale Operation

The Turkish Coast Guard announced that during an operation against human trafficking and organized crime in the city of Çanakkale, 39 Afghan refugees were identified and detained. Among those arrested were 17 children, whose conditions have drawn the attention of authorities.

According to Turkish officials, the operation was part of efforts to curb the illegal maritime passage of refugees—a route that in recent years has become a perilous option for many Afghan citizens.

In connection with this incident, another individual was also arrested by Turkish security forces on charges of human trafficking. Authorities have not released further details regarding the identity of this person or the fate of the detained refugees.

The rising attempts by Afghan citizens to reach Europe, especially following political changes and widespread restrictions inside the country under Taliban rule, have heightened concerns over the safety of refugees and the situation of children along these illegal routes.
