250 Drug Addicts Released in Balkh After Rehabilitation and Training

The Balkh Province Police Command announced that 250 drug addicts have been discharged from the province’s one-thousand-bed camp after completing treatment and training programs, and have been handed over to their families.

According to officials, during their stay at the camp, these individuals not only underwent addiction treatment but also received vocational training in skills such as tailoring, shoemaking, bag making, and equipment repair, preparing them for reintegration into normal life.

The Balkh Police Command stated that the aim of this program is to reduce social harms, support the reintegration of recovering addicts into society, and create employment opportunities for them.

Meanwhile, some social experts emphasize that the success of such programs depends on the provision of sustainable employment opportunities and ongoing social support—challenges that have persisted under the Taliban administration. Balkh police officials have said that the process of identifying, treating, and empowering addicts in the province will continue.
