ISIS Claims Responsibility for Attack on Chinese in Kabul

Reuters has reported, citing ISIS, that the group has claimed responsibility for the recent attack. According to the ISIS statement, the attack was carried out in response to what it called “China’s violence against the Uyghurs.”

Reports indicate that the explosion occurred inside a restaurant, killing one Chinese citizen and six Afghan nationals, while several others, including a child, were injured.

Three years ago, ISIS also claimed responsibility for an attack on a hotel housing Chinese nationals in Sherpur, but a senior Taliban intelligence official had attributed that attack to the Uyghurs.

Meanwhile, since taking control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have consistently asserted that they have secured nationwide security.
