Denmark Warns Trump Over Greenland: Any Action Could Trigger Serious Security Consequences

Denmark’s Prime Minister has issued a stern warning in response to remarks and threats made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Greenland, stating that such comments must be taken seriously and that any action against the territory would have far-reaching security implications.

In a press interview, Mette Frederiksen emphasized that targeting Greenland, which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark and a NATO member territory, by another NATO ally could undermine the alliance’s fundamental solidarity. She noted that such an approach contradicts the spirit of collective cooperation within NATO.

She cautioned that any potential U.S. military attack on Greenland could halt existing processes and plunge the Western security framework into a serious crisis—one that would extend beyond bilateral relations.

Earlier, Donald Trump told The Atlantic that after Venezuela, the U.S. also needs Greenland and suggested that Washington’s intervention might not be limited to just one country. This comes despite Denmark’s repeated assertions that Greenland remains under Danish sovereignty.

Meanwhile, some analysts see these statements as a continuation of U.S. pressure and intervention policies in sensitive and strategic global regions—a perspective that has previously drawn negative reactions from several countries, including the United Kingdom.
